On the trails of minority languages

Our workshop group at the recent Youth Leader Seminar of YEN “Rušiti zid(in|ov)e / Breaking Walls” consisted of eleven different minorities from eight different countries, spoke eight minority languages, and had one goal: to connect. Despite the huge variety in minority language situations it was easy to connect, so our goal was quickly achieved.

Die Sprache spielt eine außerordentlich wichtige Rolle für Minderheiten und Volksgruppen, weil sie eine identitätsstiftende Funktion hat. Allerdings haben wir in unserem Workshop „Auf den Spuren von Minderheitensprachen“ beim diesjährigen Herbstseminar der JEV im Burgenland (Österreich) gesehen, dass es hier unterschiedlich starke Gewichtungen gibt.

“Minorities on Stage” at the Diversity Festival 2016

Moscow, Москва́ … This year, from August 7-14 we had the pleasure to run the Diversity Festival for the second time. After this event happening in Bautzen/Budyšin (Germany) last year, it was now time to travel to Moscow (Russia).

From 7.-14. August 2016 we are at the Diversity Festival “Minorities on stage” in Moscow and Moscow region in Russia. It is organized by the Youth of European Nationalities (YEN), the “Jugendring der Russlanddeutschen” (Youth organisation of the Germans from Russia) and the “djo-Deutsche Jugend in Europa, Bundesverband e.V.” (German Youth in Europe).

YEN at the EUROPEADA 2016

The EUROPEADA 2016 has ended! From the 18th till the 26th of June this event took place in South Tyrol – a football championship for 30 autochthonous, national minority teams, who arrived from all over Europe. For the first time there was also a woman’s tournament, which attracted special attention.

Deportation der Krimtataren am 18. Mai 1944 war Völkermord! Russland muss Versprechen einlösen: Verfolgung der Krimtataren endlich einstellen! „Open Society“ at the Easter Seminar 2016

More than 80 different young adults traveled to Pécs (Fünfkirchen) in Hungary in order to join the Easter Seminar from the 19th to the 25th of March. As always, workshops, excursions and fun were the most important topics on the agenda of the seminar.

YEN Training on Youth Participation in Belgrade

YEN has started the year of 2016 with the amazing Kick-Off Training “Opening Doors. It took place in Belgrade, Serbia from 16-21th of February. For the first time in history a YEN event was hosted by our member organization “Lunjina” – the Aromanian Youth Council of Serbia.

Wishes of YEN for 2016 and a future Europe

In December 2015, a group of YENies met for the final YEN event of the year, the “Newbie Meeting”, in Berlin in order to meet different minorities from all over Europe, to get to know the basics of minority youth politics and exchange about current issues.
